The role of Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) in a company is vital . As the highest retainer , CEO influential in moving the business . However, many of the CEOs in Indonesia, one running position as leader . Robby Djohan , former CEO of Bank Mandiri , Bank Niaga , and Garuda Indonesia , argues , the task of the CEO is supposed to manage the human , not a business . The following interview excerpts SWA reporter , Dawn Ario , the former top banker was in his office , Graha Niaga CIMB .
You are known as a skilled leader to bring change and progress of the company . What strategies are implemented ?
I do not have a specific strategy . Maybe I am different from most leaders . The things I do for me to be a leader is to lead people , not to lead the business .
What is the purpose of the statement ?
So far, in my opinion, the current CEO just focus on the business , not the people . Many leaders interprets the wrong position and role . The leader was 20 % correct care of business , take care of the remaining 80 % . This is what I do in some companies while serving as CEO .
So , what should a CEO ?
CEOs must be a lot of new talent for talent - and provide an opportunity rather than taking care of business . Business affairs that could be run by managers . If he drops a hand too , he does not turn it to a manager . Leaders are people having a vision and a mission , he's looking for people who know and ability to pursue its vision and mission . Most CEOs are now more busy running a business , the pursuit of profit , but does not give an opportunity to the talent - talent that is good for growing . There are some CEOs who served as the leader of the banks now are the ones that I have ever given a chance . And the result , you can see for yourself .
Is Indonesia CEO shortcomings do you mean ?
We are very minimal regeneration . Indonesian CEOs severe shortage in all types of industries . Finally , came the plowing action of the plow - professional .
How should the role of the organization ?
Many companies put the CEO just as a businessman , not a professonal . As a result, many companies are not sufficiently adept leader who gave birth to a new scoring leader to manage the organization . Sound business comes from the good performance of the organization . Good organizational performance was certainly driven by people who are qualified . For that , there needs to be a sustainable talent management programs .
Is that what you do when the CEO ?
When I served as CEO of several companies , my own who are looking for the best people . There is not even the personnel director .
Means there should be intuitive to look for potential leaders ?
Yes. The process is quite simple . No need screening tests or the like . Interpersonal relationships , communication , and the track record has been taken into consideration for giving me a chance .
Of the many CEOs who served , who the CEO is in line with your thinking or doing the things you 've ever run ?
Agus Martowardojo , former president director of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk is the ideal leader . In his day , he was able to mobilize young people to promote the company . ( EVA )
